Inguinal hernia surgery eliminates the abnormal anatomical condition that leads to the development of the hernia. People have a duct in their groin surrounded by abdominal muscles. In men, the ejaculatory duct runs in this channel, and in women, one of the uterine bands. Inguinal hernia (hernia inguinalis) is a condition in which viscera (hernia contents) protrude from the abdominal cavity at a weak point in the groin area of the abdominal wall, called the hernia gate, into the glove-like protrusion of the peritoneum.
Each hernia has a hernia gate, i.e., an opening through which the hernia protrudes. In the case of a groin hernia, this is an innate or acquired opening in the abdominal wall. The hernia is formed by the protruding intestines pushing in front of them the peritoneum covering them, which also penetrates the hernia gate and extends between the soft parts in front of the abdominal wall.
The contents of the hernia can be any abdominal organ that can enter the hernia, most commonly the small and large intestines. Occasionally, abdominal cramps, stabbing or stabbing abdominal pain call attention to the possible development of a hernia. Inguinal hernia is much more common in men than in women. A hernia usually develops over months and years.
